Artist Statement

Diligently studying and re-evaluating fiber art techniques, I wanted to find my own personal and unique style. I explored many ideas, but in the end, the style just found me. It came simply through the love and passion of playing and exploring my theme. I am currently working on a body of work that has to do with the tree. For me, trees are very symbolic; finding your sustenance and strength by rooting deep, growing strong and finding balance among the storms and daily barrage of elements. The tree represents life, wisdom, protection, and growth.

I begin each piece with a hand-dyed background as the "under painting" of the piece. Then layer fused pieces of hand-dyed cotton, silk, and organza. The dye process includes thickened dye, batik, resist, mono printing and screen printing. Finally, the layers are stitched together in free motion.

Inspired by nature, I offer the power of color, joy and if you listen carefully maybe you will hear an ambience whispering truth.
